In the high-stakes world of process safety and Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), few tools command as much respect as DNV PHAST (Process Hazard Analysis Software Tool). For decades, PHAST has been the industry gold standard for modeling the consequences of hazardous chemical releases—including toxic dispersions, fires, and explosions.

  • Click Map tab > Georeference.
  • Import a .DXF or .SHP of your facility.
  • Align coordinates (Lat/Long or local grid).

  • Old method: TNO Multi-Energy with a fixed explosion strength (5-6).
  • Updated method: Use "BST (Baker-Strehlow-Tang)" with obstacles. Click Congestion Mapping. Import a 3D DXF of your plant layout. Let PHAST calculate the congestion level (Low, Medium, High) automatically.
  • Flammable: Lower Flammability Limit (LFL) = 5% vol. Clearance level = 0.5 * LFL.
  • Toxic: Not applicable for methane (use CO for toxic runs). Skip.
