Wavecom W-CODE is a high-end, professional-grade software decoder designed for the analysis and decoding of digital radio data transmissions across the entire spectrum (HF, VHF, UHF, and SHF). Review Overview
Part 5: First-Time Configuration & Testing
Once you have successfully downloaded Wavecom W-Code and installed it for your 17L Portable, perform these calibration steps:
Why the 17L Portable Needs Dedicated Software
The Wavecom 17L is a compact, handheld monitoring receiver covering VHF/UHF bands (typically 27-1300 MHz). While it excels at capturing signals, its internal processor cannot decode complex digital data protocols on its own. The 17L features a data output port (often via a proprietary serial or USB interface) that streams un-demodulated or discriminator audio to an external device. Dongle Requirement: The software checks for a specific
Part 4: Installation Guide for Windows (10/11 Recommended)
The W-Code software is designed for Windows 7, 8.1, and 10. It may run on Windows 11 with compatibility settings. Do not attempt macOS or Linux without full virtualization and USB passthrough.
Automated Analysis: Features an auto-detect function for identifying signal modes and parameters, along with real-time FFT spectrum and waterfall displays for manual measurements. the software will not decode signals

Abstract:
This paper presents a software-defined approach to decoding the proprietary WCODE digital data format used by Wavecom in select portable devices (model 17L). We reverse-engineer the modulation scheme (likely 4-level FSK at 1200/2400 bps), frame synchronization, error correction, and data de-whitening. An open-source GNU Radio decoder is implemented and tested against captured IF samples.
- Dongle Requirement: The software checks for a specific hardware dongle (USB or Parallel port) upon startup. Without this physical key, the software will not decode signals, even if you find a copy of the installer.
- Decoder Cards: The software allows you to purchase specific "decoder cards." If you do not own the license for a specific mode (e.g., PACTOR III or DMR), the software will not decode it.
- Purchase Source: The software is sold exclusively by Rohde & Schwarz or authorized resellers.
