- The Piston/O-Ring Trick: If the diagram shows the Piston and Impact Sleeve separate, ensure they are installed separately. Installing them together and sliding them in as a unit is a common mistake that causes the O-rings to pinch and tear instantly.
Step 4: Inspect Non-Serviceable Parts
Some parts in the diagram cannot be repaired individually:
Gear Train & Drive: The bevel gear (Item 36) and bevel pinion (Item 35) facilitate the rotary motion. A crankshaft (Item 50) drives the reciprocating movement of the connecting rod (Item 47) and ram (Item 46).
Stuck Drill Bit: A build-up of debris in the chuck or a failed locking sleeve can cause bits to jam. Regular cleaning and greasing of the bit shank can prevent this.
