Hzdx.shx Font Review

AutoCAD (Windows): Navigate to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD [Version]\Fonts.

Need to identify an unknown SHX font? Use the STYLE command, select each text style, and look at "Font Name" – or use the free tool SHX Viewer.

  1. Zero Fill: SHX fonts are vector-based with no "fill" (solid black area). TrueType fonts treat characters as closed polygons. When you zoom in on a TTF, AutoCAD calculates thousands of polygon vertices. HZDX only calculates the center line of the stroke.
  2. Memory Footprint: The Hzdx.shx file is typically under 1 MB. Compare that to a standard Chinese TTF, which can be 15 MB to 40 MB. Loading 40 MB of font data for a large team working on a shared server leads to latency.
  3. Plotting Reliability: Pen plotters (still used in some industrial settings) and legacy printers handle SHX line fonts perfectly. TTF fonts can sometimes "bleed" or shift slightly when printed on large-format plotters.

Fusion 360: Use the application data path: %localappdata%\Autodesk\webdeploy\production\... and look for the Resources\Fonts\SHX folder. Paste the File: Copy the Hzdx.shx file into this directory.
