Operational Logistics: The Storage Tank Challenge

One practical success of this quarter: TEPCO repurposed 42 of the original 1,000+ storage tanks for rainwater storage and decommissioning equipment. As of June 1, 2025, only 89% of the site’s tank area remains occupied, down from 96% at the start of the year. At the current release rate of one quarter of the annual volume (approx 30,000 tons per quarter), TEPCO estimates all tanks will be emptied by early 2030. All figures are subject to final verification
