Veeam Backup & Replication 12 License Key: What You Need to Know
Why the Update? With the transition to Veeam 12, licensing structures have been refined to better support modern infrastructure needs, including enhanced cloud-native protection and ransomware resilience features. Updated license keys ensure that your deployment is compliant with the latest End User License Agreement (EULA) and unlocks the full potential of the new console.
Open Console: Launch the Veeam Backup & Replication console. Menu: Click the Menu icon (top left) and select License. Install: Click Install and browse to your new .lic file.
License Buffer: Users with "Automatic License Update" enabled now benefit from a doubled buffer, allowing them to exceed their licensed instance count by up to 20% or 20 licenses (whichever is greater) for short periods.
Please update the ticket upon completion.
The Story: When Veeam released v12, they effectively killed the Free Edition. They didn't just remove it; they removed the functionality to add hosts to the free console. If you upgraded to v12 Free, you would find your existing jobs might still run, but you couldn't add new hosts or sometimes even edit existing jobs without a paid license.
