Abstract: This paper examines the dialectical tension between traditional cultural mandates and modern aspirations in the lifestyle of Indian women. Moving beyond monolithic narratives of victimhood or neoliberal liberation, it analyzes three critical domains: the domestic sphere (cooking, fasting, purity rituals), the professional sphere (work-life integration and the "second shift"), and the digital sphere (social media, dating apps, and online activism). Using data from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), NSSO reports, and ethnographic studies, the paper argues that contemporary Indian women practice "strategic traditionalism"—selectively adhering to or rejecting cultural norms based on class, caste, geography, and generational conflict.
